Polish Festival 2012

Lamar billboards flashed white & red and announcing that the Polish
Festival would be held in Syracuse’s Clinton Square. Joe Galuski from WSYR
radio said, “The sun shines on the Polish people!” And did it shine,
bringing throngs of people out to the fifty-eighth Polish Festival, June 8, 9 and 10.

Festivities began with PSF President – Tad
Szyszka, Syracuse’s Mayor – Stephanie Miner ,Van B. Robinson – President
of Syracuse’s Common Council and the Polish Scholaship Board of Directors raising the Polish flag at City Hall while the national anthem was sung.

An all-star line-up of entertainment, including eighteen
Grammy winner, Jimmy Sturr & his Orchestra , Melody Lane, John Stevens
Doubleshot, Al Piatkowski, Syracuse’s own Salt City Brass, Ashley Cox, the
Noise Boys, the Eddie Forman Orchestra and Tomasz Kotapka on his piano
entertained the crowds. Also appearing with its vast repertoire of dances
from varying regions of Poland was the Lechowia Polish Canadian Dance
Company from Toronto, Canada with their Artistic Director Dr. Andrzej
Wichert which recreates for the stage the rich artistry of Polish folk
culture while delighting the audience.

The main purpose for the festival is the awarding of ten scholarships to deserving students of Polish descent, who have excelled scholastically and donated their time and talents to the Polish community.
